The United States found itself in another major conflict just five years after the end of WWII and was totally unprepared. Europe was the focus of the United States and the overwhelming forces of the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe. Korea was not even considered within the US sphere for Asia. Suddenly and without warning, the well trained and equip forces of North Korea surged across the border and attacked south quickly destroying the South Korean Armed forces. American response was pitiful with Task Force Smith committed quickly. Undermanned, under equipped and untrained, Task Force Smith is swept aside. Finally sufficient combat power was generated capitalizing on the Naktong River to slow and stop the onslaught. But what was the cost for poor intelligence, poorly trained and equipped Americans. Are we any better off today is the question.
